Solidarity through Suffering

Hebrews 4:15-16 KJV “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

A few years ago, the LORD drew me into a prison ministry. I had no idea how to write, or talk with prisoners, and had no idea what to say. I just relied on the HOLY SPIRIT to help me through, and it’s worked just fine. I write and talk with people all over the world as far as China, Iran, the USA, and Eritrea. Some I never get a response from, and some I talk with weekly. Some have committed no crime other than the fact that they have preached the Gospel, and have been locked up for many many years. Others have committed murder, sex crimes, etc. Many are on death row.

Now although I know about the crimes these people have committed (or not) I never ask them about them. After a time they always end up telling me. What is amazing is they way it happens. The prisoners first always tell me something very painful that they can relate to. They will associate and describe some painful event that happened to someone they loved long ago. This is almost always about someone they loved dearly. Someone, who was good to them. From there they can draw regret, and sorrow for what they have done, and the pain they have caused to others by their crime. They always tell me they wish they could go back and change that moment or time, and go back with that good person in their lives. They always tell me they wish they could tell the family how much they are sorry.

I always think about Hebrews at moments like this. You see, JESUS it says, experienced every temptation known to man. Have you ever really thought about that? Seriously? EVERY ONE! That means every sin JESUS was tempted by. BUT HE DID NOT SIN, but still experienced the tempting of it. Does that not just make you almost bewildered?

What this does though, is tell you something wonderful. JESUS experienced what it’s like to want to be angry, to want to lust, to want to kill, to want and not have, to want to steal, to want to lie, to want to hate, to want to covet, but to NOT SIN. HE experienced all our carnality without sin. Until, our sin was laid upon HIM. This is why HE sits on a MERCY SEAT. HE knows our every weakness because HE felt it all. HE experienced it all.

HE RELATES. From that relating HE can offer grace and mercy.

We would do well to walk a mile in someone’s shoes before we dish out judgement because we do not know what is truly the heart of a person. We are too quick to judge based only on exterior. Carnal eyes often are blind to what the LORD would have us see.

All Glory and Honour are Yours Almighty Father through Your SON, JESUS CHRIST!
